Subverting Social Justice
Listening to Pepe Escobar's Real News report on the Bolivian conflict between the colonial elite and the indigenous majority, I found it informative if not shocking that the U.S. Embassy in La Paz was supporting the right-wing opposition to President Morales' social programs. Obstructing and overthrowing Latin American governments that stand up to US corporations and other economic bullies is old news, but US-backed hostility toward the human rights of indigenous peoples only became overt in the last few years.
This may explain why the UN membership voted to remove the United States from the Human Rights Commission, but it doesn't explain why the American people are complacent about it.
